Sherod Santos was born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1948, but he grew up in several states around the country and in Europe because his father was an Air Force pilot. Santos earned an M.A from San Diego State, an M.F.A. from the University of California-Irvine, and a Ph.D. from the University of Utah. His poems have appeared in numerous journals and magazines, including The New Yorker, Poetry, The Nation, The Paris Review, Antaeus, and The Iowa Review. Santos has taught at the University of Utah and the University of Missouri, and from 1990 until 1997 he served as poet-in-residence at the Poets' House in Northern Ireland.
