| OTHER INFORMATION: | Borko worked for: System Development Corp.; Professor,
UCLA; Associate head of language processing and retrieval
group, SDC 1964. He completed research with Doyle and Simmons. While at
SDC, he "wanted to understand concepts of underlying
retrieval of information from documents with the practical
goal of automating the process." The result was BOLD. In
1967, Borko took a faculty position at UCLA - School of
Library Service.
While at SDC, he "used a time-shared computer connected
to teletypewriters and cathode ray tubes to search for and
display titles and to compare various indexing methods"
(Farkas-Conn). He sees information science as "a true
discipline that investigates the properties and behavior
of information, the forces governing the flow of
information, and the means for processing information for
